School Awards Day

We are so proud of Corey. He received awards for Good Citizen, Good Character, Super Reader with 30 AR points, participating in Mathfest, and Most Improved in Math. Corey is ready to go swimming this summer. He will be starting at a new charter school next year. The baseball season will be ending soon and both boys want to take in a Braves game. Corey and Grace will also be going to White Water while Tyler is at Tybee Island with 4-H.

Tyler received numerous awards. He was recognized for A-B Honor Roll, participating in Mathfest, Top AR Points for reading nearly 2 million words, 5th Grade Writing Test for scoring highest in 5th grade, Highest Spelling Average, Highest Reading Average, and President's Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence for scoring in the "exceeds" category on every part of the CRCT. He was happy to receive the awards but mostly happy about getting out of school for the summer. Next year he will start his new school. We hope he will do well there also.

Adventures on Jekyll Island

Pete is such a good Dad! He didn't "kill" me when I volunteered him to chaperone Tyler's entire 5th grade class to Jekyll Island. He said that they kept them busy from sun up to sun down. Lots of ecology, biology, conservation, and even looked for dolphins by boat. Pete was in total awe at meal times. He said that those kids would trade any and everything. Better than any auction! Milk for bread, meat for dessert. He had to sit with his arms covering his tray so that they wouldn't try to trade his food. He said that if someone had taken a bite off of some food and needed to trade it, they would cut that small portion off and trade away.
Tyler enjoyed learning about the snakes. That was one of his many classes.

My oldest baby is growing up right before my eyes. (The other 2 are quickly following him, too.) He no longer needs me like he use to. I now realize that since he was born, I am teaching him how to be on his own. I have to let him go and discover on his own. He doesn't need me to do everything for him. He needs me to guide and advise him as he attempts living. And every time I watch him discover something new that he is able to do, I am amazed all over again. Just as if he were still a baby. Children are so wonderous. These 2 pictures are only 7 years apart. I just love Pete, Tyler, Corey, and Grace so very much!

Our Trip to the Zoo

Corey was excited about going to the zoo because it now has a rock wall to climb. Unfortunately, due to the high winds today, they closed this feature. He was totally rockin' in the reptile house. He was all about the snakes, lizards, turtles, and critters. He also enjoyed the gorillas. Corey has to complete 2 projects using water during the summer for his new school. One of them is to get his picture made with 5 bodies of water. I got his picture at the Wetlands and the otter exhibits at the zoo. He also can use this trip to the zoo to satisfy one of his boy scout projects. We think it was worth "skipping" school for.

Grace's favorite thing at the zoo today was the carosel. We had to ride 3 times before we got off with her screaming. At the playground, she loved this red and yellow see-saw. Of course, she screamed when we left it also. And her favorite animal seemed to be the elephants. She also enjoyed the petting zoo and screamed when we left it also.

You may notice that Pete and Tyler appear not to be with us. They are at Jekyll Island with Ty's 5th grade class. They are suppose to be taking pictures for me to post later. Pete called to tell me something about a lot of mud in the marsh and kids being hosed off outside. I am so sure that they are miserable. I think that even though we are not all together, everyone is having a good time. Corey will have a baseball game tomorrow and Pete and Ty should come home Wednesday. Pete feels like I do "Ohhhh, my aching legs"!

Stop and Smell the Flowers

Grace is loving the flowers at Grandmama's house. It is so funny to watch her smell the flowers because she wrinkles up her nose and says "Good".
